The Cockpit Country is a big empty space in St. Elizabeth and Southern Trelawny Parishes. Miles upon miles of Karst formations, it is a geologist's dream.

A visit to Accompong usually starts with a stop by my friend, George Huggins. He makes traditional Maroon drums in all sizes.

Accompong Village was the headquarters of the Western Maroons in the first maroon wars in the early 1700's. The British signed the treaty ending that war with the mighty Maroon chieftain CUDJO in 1739.

Traditionally, it is believed that the treaty was signed at THE PEACE CAVE. Pictured here is the entrance to that cave. It is our favourite hike around the area. Less than an hour's hike which includes seeing and meeting many of the locals who are endlessly fascinating.
