Blue Mountain Peak at 7403 ft high is the 6th highest mountain in the entire Caribbean. The other 5 are all on the island of Hispanola.
Just getting to our starting point is an adventure. Normally, we make a two day event of it. We pick you up wherever you are on the island and stop at Old Tavern Estate the first day. Then drive to Hagley Gap and get picked up by a four wheel drive vehicle which takes us to Whitfield Hall
We enjoy the roaring fire for the evening. we are served a great local dinner and go to bed early. At 2:30AM we are up for the 7 mile hike to the summit. We want to reach the peak at dawn for the best possible view from the heights. The clouds keep massing over the summit for the rest of the day
I have climbed this mountain over 200 times. Sometimes there are clouds below you and as the sun comes up through them it feels like you are in a fairy castle, sometimes it is dead clear and you can see Cuba. Sometimes you can't see your hand in front of your face. This tripod marks the peak
Getting to the top for sunrise was on Cheri's bucket list.
We made it just in time
No way was it on Terresa's list, but she made it to the top in a more leaisurely fashion, slightly after sunrise
Anthony, on top of Blue Mountain Peak. Gorgeous Day.
Back down to Whitfield for a hearty breakfast. It makes you feel VERY superior that you have hiked 14 miles before breakfast
There are other great hikes from this location, so if you want to stay a few days we can keep you entertained
Unfortunately, we have to leave our eagle's aerie and go back to the real world now. Magical memories we will treasure forever have been captured
